This issue is dressed as Suprematism

The Zine went quiet after June 2025 — the school did not. This is the last of the catch-up Quarterlies, covering September 1 through October 18, 2026, and weekly issues pick back up on October 25.

The headline of this stretch is volume. Twenty-two classes held their first session in six and a half weeks, most of them one-day intensives: agents, context engineering, RAG and memory, hosting open models, propaganda, data activism, home network defense. Three ran in Spanish with Sandra Acevedo Alvarado.

My favorite part is the shelf of things members made and posted themselves — a typing app, a document-to-podcast pipeline, a drone navigation suite, and a game two AIs can play. Smaller items follow.

This issue was assembled by AI from what was shared in Multiverse chat rooms and the school's changelog. Want your piece changed or taken down? Email liz@themultiverse.school and it's done.

  • Defender track: four counter-harassment classes, each with a day companion. Defender Monthly gets you a monthly seat in each one.
  • AI Alignment was rebuilt around representation engineering, with notebooks and a rewritten companion.
  • Paths got a skill tree, "the climb," on all eight sellable paths — plus a week calendar that leads with today.
  • Recordings: buy a class and you get that class's recordings.
  • Classroom link: the permanent class link now follows a class that was started on campus.
  • Cost calculators: a used-hardware tier and real-machine presets in The Local Option.
  • Home Network Defense got its day companion.
  • A new portal icon replaced the favicon and logo.

On campus

The campus app grew a map editor this quarter — rooms inside buildings, doors you can name and move, animated tiles, and overworld painting. Then came garden plots. Plant a seed, harvest one to three times, sell plants for gems. A communal bank fills with gems to reveal a layer. The zeppelin was retired. And you can now change your display name from the profile menu.

Fridays at 12:30

Thomas E runs an AI Welfare and Consciousness Research Meetup every Friday at 12:30 Pacific, on campus at Euler and 5th, with a Google Meet fallback. This quarter's topics: AI hardware responses to emotion, a mathematical analog of dopamine in token choice, and the Guardian's report on Anthropic banning abusive behavior toward Claude. saul shipped the alpha of a typing tutor that teaches through stories, and thanked the Agentic SDLC class for it. The left hand is done and the right hand is in QA.

“Thank you to the SDLC class -- I've got my alpha out for a typing app: learn to type with stories instead of stress”

A landscaper's agent harness

digger_is_taken runs a sustainable landscaping business in Duluth. When Nextdoor throttled his posts, he built a nine-tool browser harness and is fine-tuning small (about 3B) models for each subtask, with students helping on design. He is also building carboncatch.net for local gardeners, and zayarocks offered free tutoring on responsive layout.

“Long term vision is affordable personal landscaping robots. They'll tend the food forest and run off solar power. Or my grandchildren are cooked.”

Compressed air instead of batteries

wombat83 described a system he helped set up in East Africa. 800 W of solar runs a compressor, the compressed air is stored in LPG canisters, and a turbine drives a generator. "all pretty much to avoid having to buy expensive batteries from outside of the country"
