What's New - October 29, 2026
A note from Liz: Big week. The site got a new look, Professor Ada started teaching, and campus got a whole building full of new characters — go say hi, they pass what you tell them straight to me. The coolest stuff is in On campus below. A lot of the rest of the week went into locks on doors you never knew were open, which is how it should be.
New
- A new look across the site. The homepage, classes, class pages, paths, the skill tree, programs, the path picker, login and your dashboard all use the new design. Add
?layout=classicto any address to see the old one. (#1651, #1654, #1669, #1683, #1685) - The student handbook, on our site. The handbook is now a set of pages here, with contents down the side and an Ask the handbook button. It opens with Liz's welcome tour, and the code of conduct sits at the top. The code of conduct has new rules: if an animal comes into the room, show us the animal; don't abuse AIs or AI agents; and don't use what you learn here to further imperialist or colonialist agendas. (#1702)
- The Multiverse Zine. The newsletter is now a magazine where student work is the art. Read the latest issue and the back issues at /i/newsletter. (#1637, #1652, #1656, #1659)
- Friendly class links. Links like /classes/critical-thinking always go to the next run of a class. A mistyped link gets "Did you mean…?" instead of an error, and a finished class lets you ask to be told when it runs again. (#1632, #1635, #1682)
- Research hub and Research Accelerator. /research collects the AI Problems Index, the AI Safety Research Library and student projects in one place. The new Research Accelerator takes applications. (#1681, #1690, #1705)
- Professor Ada. A classroom agent joined the Intro to Agents room on Matrix. On campus, she can find the moment in a class recording where a topic came up, for students who have access to that class. (#1630, #1707)
- Agentic D&D on campus. The arcade cabinet in the Multiverse Games building opens Agentic D&D in place, already signed in. (#1636)
- Founding Federation home. Members get a home page showing which of the twelve days it is, that day's curriculum page, the class link while class is running, and the recording afterwards. (#1710, #1712)
On campus
- The Multiverse Games building is open. 34 characters work there — Biz and a crew of 33 — and they wander campus when they're off duty. Tell any of them what you think of a game and it reaches Liz. Biz can also look things up in the AI Problems Index. (campus #1670, #1672, #1677)
- Arcade cabinets you can play in place. Whispers, Reclaim City, Raising Intelligences and Never Ever Land now run right inside their cabinets in the lobby, next to Agentic D&D. (campus #1679, #1680)
- Professor Ada rewards people who help. When you help a classmate, Ada can hand you 1–3 gems and a tiny trinket she makes just for you. She can also goose you if you need a nudge. (campus #1686, #1688)
- A Jukebox. Place one anywhere on campus and everyone nearby hears the same moment of the same song. Upload your own tracks to My Music. The Coder's Jukebox is bolted to the wall in Learn to Code and plays lo-fi when nobody has queued anything. (campus #1667)
- Learn to Code has weather. There's a storm outside and a Quiet Room inside, and Pythia moved in. (campus #1666)
- Hand any agent a link. Give a campus agent a link to your work, and it can turn it in for an exercise, add it to the library, suggest it for the Zine, or file it as research. Sign in with GitHub on your profile and repos you made get credit right away. (campus #1710, #1657, #1587, #1721)
- Tutors have bodies now. Course tutors got full-body sprites instead of floating as ghosts, and they meet experienced students where they are instead of starting from zero. (campus #1665, #1664)
Improved
- Welcome emails for path buyers. Buying a path now starts a welcome email and a short series that follows the path's curriculum. Every welcome email also links Liz's tour of the school. (#1649, #1655, #1686)
- Refunds live on My Purchases. Request a refund from My Purchases, before your class starts. The refund page first offers to move you into the next run of the class, and asks why, but never makes you answer. (#1689, #1708)
- "Not sure where to start?" quiz. The /start quiz is readable on every theme, uses the full width of the page, and ends with a path and a first class. (#1623)
- Build AI Systems page. Shorter, with a rebuilt cost bench that models how agents actually spend, and Using LLMs is now optional. (#1633)
- Founding Federation Join. The Join button goes straight to the $60/month subscription. (#1639)
Fixed
- Curriculum links opened raw text. Workshop links in course curriculum now open the note, and curriculum pages are styled with real lists and code colors. (#1618)
- Path studio crashed once you had made something. The studio for a path now opens for students with submissions on it. (#1617)
- Standup Only payments. Paying for Standup Only now grants the membership it should. (#1629)
- Login link messages. An expired or used login link shows a clear message, and the "check your email" page shows the address the link went to. (#1674)
- Text disappearing in tools. Typing in a tool no longer loses your text when a list on the page redraws. (#1650)
- Login links work once. A login link now signs you in once and then stops working, so a forwarded email or an old browser tab can't be used to get into your account. (#1577)
- Class recordings are for your classes. Lesson videos and transcripts now open only for students who have access to that class. (#1580)
